The Labour Market and Competitiveness, Competitiveness Bulletin 15-4

An efficiently functioning labour market is a pre-requisite for a competitive economy. This Bulletin from the NCC looks at the latest QNHS labour market data released earlier this week by the CSO. Overall, the data is positive confirming that economic growth is being translated into employment growth. Significant challenges remain, however - the predominance of long-term unemployment, the scale of youth unemployment, low levels of participation amongst certain cohorts of the population, and the occurrence of under-employment.
